About the course

In this course I will share with you how I create a 6 inch polymer clay child which I will finish as a fairy. I will explain how the techniques that you will learn can be adapted to a sculpture of any size or age.  These are the same basic techniques that I use for all of my full sculptures from babies to adults.

During this course you will learn:

  • Where I get the reference patterns that I use
  • Proportions for a child
  • Building an armature
  • Sculpting the full figure head to toe
  • Painting
  • Applying hair
  • Dressing the figure as a flower fairy
  • Simple wings
  • ..and more... I will share everything that I can!

About The Instructor

Barbara Felts

For as long as I can remember I have been compelled to create. I share this desire with my Mother and I have many fond memories of creating with her over the years. I wouldn't be where I am today without her encouragement to take my first sculpting class with June Goodnow at a doll show in 1995. I became obsessed with sculpting as soon as I had the clay in my hand. Since that doll show I have taken many sculpting classes and attended many shows with my mother right by my side. I have learned so much over the years but I strive to learn more each day. I mostly sculpt with polymer clay at this time but I have begun experimenting with other mediums.

I have won many awards over the years starting the first year that felt qualified to submit an entry.

Dolls magazine Industry choice awards (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017)
Dolls magazine public's choice award (2014, 2015)
IDTS Judge's choice award - 2016

Due to health and family issues I was unable to sculpt much in the past couple of years so I haven't entered since 2017. I have just moved into a new house with a separate space for my studio. I have enjoyed teaching in the past and I hope to begin having classes again at my new studio. I would love to pass along the information that I have learned over the years.

I am a member of several organizations
ODACA - Original Doll Artist Council of America
PDMAG - Professional Doll Makers Art Guild
IADR - International Art Doll Registry
