About the course

Explore lost wax casting with glass in this fun and funny class with Jodi. We will start with plastic critters, the weirder the better, and make them even stranger before we cast them in glass. Learn about

  • different types of silicone for mold making
  • modeling wax
  • changing forms before molding,
  • altering wax forms
  • calculating and pouring plaster casting molds
  • calculating glass volume
  • Firing schedules and annealing
  • coldworking your final projects

This may be a light-hearted take on wildlife, but the glass concepts are serious, seriously useful!

Bonus class for students who own the course:

Firing and casting tests for mystery glass - what kind of glass IS grandma’s vase, and can you use it for casting?? We’ll walk through the tests you can do to help figure out these melting questions.

Bonus materials for students who own the course:

  • Material List
  • Shore Strength/Definition chart for silicone
  • DIY Silicone Mold Recipe
  • Glass Volume Calculation worksheet
  • Mold Volume Calculation worksheet
