About the course

I tell people all the time that I don’t really like to make jewelry. Stringing beads and bending wire makes me cross-eyed, and I don’t really understand the rules of composition and balance that are so critical to crafting a complex, elegant piece of jewelry.

What I do love to do is create animals out of polymer clay! I especially love non-cuddly animals—such as reptiles and amphibians. As an artist, I am best known for my small sculptures of frogs and toads.

Even though I may not be crazy about making jewelry, I enjoy working “small,” and showing off my animal artwork in simple necklaces. I create bold, deeply textured critter pendants that hang from a simple wire cable! They are easy and a little addictive to make—no boring bead-rolling or jump-ring bending, just sculpting colorful polymer clay into bright, whimsical, wearable art, guaranteed to grab attention.

Please join me for my “Hanging by a Wire” classes this January. I will demonstrate how to make 3 different polymer clay pendants: a big-eyed chameleon on a leaf, a tropical tree frog, and an exotic goldfish. Students will learn how to blend the clay and shape each animal, how to add texture and attach all the features. I will also provide tips on ways to help strengthen the pendants, and ensure they hang properly. We’ll also discuss paint options and other embellishments.

This course will be great for experienced polymer clay aficionados, as well as curious newbies!
